The Terra Dress is an easy-wearing shirt dress, with a front button placket, collar stand and fall. The sleeves are slightly dropped sleeves. There are two views: (A) one with more romantic detailing and silhouette, and the other (B) with a more structured and straight line silhouette. The bodices and sleeves of both views are interchangeable. If you choose, you may use the sleeve design of View A with the bodice design of View B, and vice versa.
The Terra Dress was originally prepared for By Hand Serial Lookbook No 15.
Skill Level: View A has an Intermediate level of difficulty, and takes longer to sew than View B. It requires installing sleeve cuffs and gathering lines, which View B does not. Both views require sewing a yoke, a collar, and a button placket. All other techniques are beginner-level garment sewing.
Recommended Fabrics: The Terra Dress is designed for midweight wovens (5 to 6 oz/yd) and lightweight wovens (3-4 oz/yd). You may use any fiber, keeping in mind that each will produce different draping effects. The samples shown in the promotional photographs are sewn with 100% linen. For fabrics with patterning such as stripes or a tartan, keep in mind that extra yardage may be needed for pattern matching.
