Gimlet is a smart, fitted dress which shows off contrasting (or co-ordinating) lining for interest. This fully lined cocktail dress features external (inside-out) darts which reveal the lining in triangles at the neckline for a pop of colour or a change in texture (eg. satin lining). Instructions include an invisible zip and lined walking vent.
Suitable fabrics for the dress are medium to heavy weight woven dress fabrics and suiting fabrics. Fabrics with a slight crosswise stretch are also suitable for this close-fitting style. Do not use knit fabrics.
For the lining, use lining fabrics. Since the lining is visible in the finished dress, you may wish to choose a contrasting colour. You may wish to use contrasting thread for the darts, too.
