from The Modern Sewing Co.:

The Boatneck Top is a wardrobe basic that’s designed to be useful for all 12 months of the year. It’s the perfect piece to comfortably layer under knits in winter or wear on it’s own in warmer months. It is a simple piece to make which means it’s a great project for beginners.

Sizing & Fit: This pattern is a fitted jersey piece and it should feel like a second skin. The neck line is high and wide (giving it its ‘boatneck’ name) and the rest of the garment is fitted, from the shoulders to the sleeves and body. The sleeves are slightly cropped to sit above the wrist and the body length sits just on the hips.

Construction techniques: Simple stretch stitch seams and a small amount of topstitching. If you haven’t sewn with jersey before don’t worry! It’s not as scary as it seems. The pattern comes with lots of information on how to sew with jersey using a standard domestic sewing machine (no overlocker needed, but yes you can also sew it with an overlocker).

Recommended Fabrics: The Boatneck Top is a fitted jersey pattern which means it needs to be paired with a stretchy fabric. You can use a jersey with an elastane blend or a fabric knitted with plenty of stretch. For a wearable wardrobe basic we recommend using a lovely lightweight jersey in a fibre of your choice.
