Scientists in medieval times used these beautiful and enigmatic symbols in their manuscripts as a shorthand for various chemicals and processes. Although none of their works led to the discovery of the Philosopher’s Stone or the ability to create gold from a base metal, many wonderful scientific advances were made, opening the field for modern chemists. The chartpack includes a key to the symbolic meanings, from the earth, air, fire, and water triangles in the corners to the nine golden symbols for gold in the center.
